Southern Georgia Regional Commission: GIS Technician

The Southern Georgia Regional Commission is seeking qualified candidates for the position of GIS Technician. This position involves interaction with local governments throughout an 18 county region. Position responsibilities include cartography, data creation and maintenance, GIS project planning, and spatial analysis. The GIS technician will also assist the GIS Program Director and VALOR Project Manager in a variety of GIS initiatives. These will include projects in desktop and online environments that will cover a wide array of practical GIS uses.

The successful candidate will possess a working knowledge of many of the following: Windows XP/7/8, Microsoft Office software, ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop software, Creation and editing of spatial datasets, Spatial analysis and geoprocessing, ModelBuilder or Python, and ArcGIS Online. The successful candidate will be able to work flexible and extended hours if needed, possess professional interpersonal skills, an ability to follow written and oral instructions, and have good oral communication skills.

This is a short term, hourly- paid position based in the Valdosta SGRC office. This position is temporary for a minimum period of 5 months that may be extended to June 30th, 2020. 15-20 hours per week availability required. Hourly pay range of $10 – $15, dependent upon experience.
