Calling Applicants for the Georgia URISA Student Committee

Georgia URISA is excited to announce the formation of a new Student Committee! The purpose of the Committee is to encourage participation with Georgia URISA and to increase opportunities for incorporating GIS at all levels of education.

The responsibilities of the Student Committee will include:

  • Facilitating collaboration between your college/university and Georgia URISA
  • Assisting the Education and Outreach Chair with student events
  • Working on the K-12 STEM Program
  • Contributing to a joint project with all participating colleges/universities
  • Bringing fresh new ideas to Georgia URISA

Any undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in school is eligible to apply. In order to apply, please send a short biography, the name of your school, the year you expect to graduate and a brief explanation of why you would like to be on the Committee to education@gaurisa.org. The deadline for submitting applications is midnight, March 15, 2017.

Once assembled, the Committee will elect a Student Liaison who will become a member of the Georgia URISA Board.

GIS Analyst – Middle Georgia Regional Commission

The Middle Georgia Regional Commission is seeking to fill the position of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst.  The GIS Analyst position is responsible for meeting the daily information technology requirements of the Middle Georgia Regional Commission (MGRC) and assisting member local governments and partner agencies with service requests of a technical nature.  These duties typically include the application of GIS technology, website and/or web application design and support, network administration, and general systems maintenance.  The GIS Analyst works under the direct supervision of the Director of Technology Services.

Qualified applicants should, at a minimum, possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university as well as have previous experience in relevant information technology fields; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  This position requires advanced computer application skills.

The Middle Georgia Regional Commission provides services to 11 counties and 20 cities in Middle Georgia through its office located in Macon, Georgia.  Interested persons should submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and three references to:

GIS Technician – Edwards-Pitman Environmental

Edwards-Pitman Environmental is seeking a GIS Technician for our Smyrna office. Under direct supervision, candidate would be responsible for digitizing and cataloging environmental data from a variety of sources. Responsibilities would include:

  • Identifying environmental resources from paper and digital sources
  • Working with proprietary and open-source GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS)
  • Assisting team with GIS-related tasks

 

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Bachelor’s in Geography, Environmental Studies, or related field
  • 0 – 2 years’ experience
  • A strong sense of organization
  • A desire to problem solve
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap, ArcCatalog)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Access, Word)
  • Familiarity with versioned data
  • Fundamental understanding of relational databases
  • Fundamental understanding of geoprocessing and Python scripting
